BIOGRAPHY

aica was born in Osaka, Japan, a city where rich cultural traditions co-exist within modern high-rise buildings and cutting edge factories. Started her artistic journey at an early age by drawing family portrait narratives on the back of her father’s electrical engineering blueprints.
She received a BFA from F.I.T. after initially studying traditional drawing, She moved into 3D animation, but became disenchanted with the 3D medium as being too explicit, and ultimately rediscovered the power of simple painting and drawing to expand the viewer's imagination beyond the canvas.
She has shown her work at Chelsea Art Museum, The NoLita Art Walk at the Rebecca Taylor boutique in New York, The Korus House of the Embassy of Republic of Korea and among others. She was featured on Juxtapoz Magazine online, The Korea Times News Paper, and SoHo Journal. She was interviewed by WMBC-TV Good News segment about her painting during the art show at Curious Matter. Her work have been featured on T-shirts, bags, accessories, and jewelries for Rebecca Taylor and have sold worldwide.
She currently lives and works in New York where she paints happily with her muses, beautiful twin kittens.

ARTIST STATEMENTS

“MEMORIES OF THE MOMENTS OF LOVE”

aica invites the audience to join the love she finds in the simple and often overlooked moments of life.

"These moments could be from someone next to me, or even something without a soul like gems. Even if these memories scar my heart in some way, it comforts me to embrace that scar, and surround it with warm sun light. Like witnessing a young girl's isolated emotions being released into air, I hope through my work to inspire someone who may hold sadness within to start loving someone or something around them."
